JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after the Associated Press declared him winner of the race to represent the First Congressional District in Congress:
“I thank East Tennesseans for the trust they’ve placed in me, and I don’t take the responsibility the First District has given me lightly. Serving the First District in Congress is an honor, and I know first-hand what a great place it is to raise a family. Tennesseans are hardworking, loyal and generous, and for far too long they’ve seen their values and way of life chipped away. I’ve got a lot of work to do in Congress to push for policies that reflect our shared conservative values, and East Tennesseans can rest assured I will continue to fight to change the direction of our country – whether it’s leading the charge to repeal and replace Obamacare or standing up for the right to life.
“Lastly, I want to encourage anyone in the First District – Republican or Democrat – to call on me if there’s ever any way I can be of assistance. I’ll never forget who I work for, and as long as I have the honor of serving you in Congress I’ll never stop fighting to make our country better and stronger for our children and grandchildren.”
