As a physician with more than 30 years of experience, taking care of patients has been my life’s work. I am not a career politician, and I know firsthand that our health care system needs work. I also know that Obamacare was not the way to address the issues in the American health care system.
Obamacare has been a complete disaster since day one, and many of the predictions I made about the law crumbling during the health care debate are coming to fruition. I think we need to repeal the president’s health care law and start over, though I do not believe we should return to the status-quo before Obamacare. We should take steps to make health care affordable and accessible to all Americans, especially our seniors on Medicare, but we should do it in a way that lets the market work, keeps the government out of health care and puts patients in charge of health care decisions.
I feel so strongly about this I drafted the conservative Republican alternative to Obamacare, and many of the policies in my plan were included in the House Republican health care proposal released in June of 2016. Some of these ideas include: allowing patients to purchase insurance across state lines, providing for tax credits for the purchase of insurance, reforming medical malpractice laws and providing transparency in the actual cost of health care services.
