As a physician with more than 30 years of experience, taking care of patients has been my life’s work. I am not a career politician, and I know firsthand that our health care system needs work. I also know that Obamacare was not the way to address the issues in the American health care system.
Obamacare has been a complete disaster since day one, and many of the predictions I made about the law crumbling during the health care debate have come to fruition. I think we need to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a free-market, conservative alternative. We should take steps to make health care affordable and accessible to all Americans, especially our seniors on Medicare, but we should do it in a way that lets the market work, keeps the government out of health care and puts patients in charge of health care decisions.
I drafted the conservative Republican alternative to Obamacare, and many of our ideas were included in the legislation that the House passed to repeal and replace Obamacare. The Senate failed to act, however, and that’s one of the reasons I believe the Senate needs to do away with the filibuster. Despite this failure, I was pleased we succeeded in repealing the individual mandate tax, one of the least American provisions within Obamacare. I will continue working until this monstrosity is repealed.
